EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
A strong foundation is needed to construct a strong and large building; similarly education is an important tool of broadening the human horizons while pre-primary education is a foundation which helps in constructing successful human lives. It becomes important because, by the time of going to primary school a child can read, write and count easily. Besides the other care and support a child needs to be given opportunity to attend quality pre-primary education in a safe, secure and child friendly environment.
AWSAR runs Early Childhood Education and Care Centers for Children in the age group of 3 – 6 years looking at the dysfunctional condition of ICDS centers in various project villages, and absence of pre-school education component.
AFTER SCHOOL SUPPORT AND LEARNING CENTERS
A large number of children are enrolled and go to government schools only to get mid day meals as the quality of education imparted in government schools does not help children in any way. Teachers in government school either do not teach properly or they do not get enough time to teach children due to their engagements in administrative works.
The quality of education imparted in government schools and small privately run schools are almost the same and no parent wants to send their children to government school. These children are either the victims of being able to learn less than their age and lose interest which ultimately leads to drop-out. The area has a significant number of Muslim populations where young girls are not allowed to go to school out of the village.
Such kind of situation generated demand and need for a programme which can cater to drop-out girls as well as those who need additional support to reach to their education standard. The learning centres caters to academic as well as other developmental needs of children and quality education far exceeds than many government or privately run schools.
Beside the organization of meeting and training programmes for parents AWSAR is also running after school learning centres in villages of Dankaur block of Gautam Budh Nagar district which provide education for about 300 students in the age group of 6 to 15. After School Learning centres caters to the educational and recreational needs of children studying upto standard 10th. These After School Learning centres are run by local teachers who are trained by AWSAR. AWSAR is able to provide a quality of education for the children, which far exceeds that available in government schools.
